20th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Bored, Periclenes Imperato and Ceratosoma tenue

The photograph was taken in Indonesia, in the Lembeh Strait. The strait is famous for its mud dips and its great biodiversity of organisms. The shrimp photographed is a Periclimenes Imperatos on a Ceratosoma tenue nudibranch. The difficulty is in finding this combination of commensalism, between the shrimp and the nudibranch and in finding the shot with the right position of the shrimp, as in this case. The shot was made with a Nikon D800E camera, a Nikon 105mm macro lens and with the snoote to isolate the subject from the surrounding environment
