Virginia City, NV is the only town in the United States with dedicated annual camel races. Mark Twain, who became a writer while living in this town, wrote about the races for the local newspaper The Territorial Enterprise in the 1860s. It's a 3 day celebratory affair & the camels now come from Kansas.
