Driving along a rural road close to sundown, I noticed this farmer plowing a cotton field. I did a quick U-turn, parked on the side of the road, and grabbed my camera. Walking along the edge of this Arizona cotton field I was surrounded by the pure white puffs of cotton among a haze of dust that followed the tractor in each plowed row. As one of the five C’s essential to the state's economy - copper, cattle, cotton, citrus, and climate - cotton’s history in Arizona can be traced from the prehistoric Hohokam cotton farms.
