Miniature children playing in a drinking fountain
Anupam Pal (Kanpur, India)
Photographed December 2007, Chakdaha, India
The fountain was shot in Pennsylvania and the children (the photographer's niece and nephews) in Chakdaha, India. "The person in the background is me," says Pal. "The idea was to show the necessity of cleaner and safer water, not just for drinking but for everything." —Abigail Tucker

Love the way the astonished eyes in background mirror how I felt when I first saw this!

Yes ! I love to see a photograph and think, "How was that done?" I wonder if the photographer was influenced by Dali? I see the happiness of youth in it as well as the exuberance of children at play. Another perspective for me reflects a person who looks back at a childhood filled with joy.

Besides being absolutely enchanting, this photograph can really be called an "altered image".

Reminiscent of the classic film "Dr.Cyclopes." Great effect, superb photography.

You can relate to the people, in a strange way. If I saw a bunch of mini-kids playing in a drinking fountain, I would probably have a similar expression as the person in the back, and if I were that size, I would probably want to play in a drinking fountain too.
