I love the varied patterns in this photograph. Because the nun is in shadow, the eye is drawn to the patterns instead of the nun.

This is a remarkable photograph considering it is not an Adobe composite. The texture of the wood combined with the background color is a wonderful frame for the Nun, a dark silhouette. This picture could not be more perfectly composed than it is.

The gateway to beauty and culture must always be well tended. The silhouetted nun perfectly portrays her unpretentious but important role in doing so. The use of texture and color is superb. This photo reveals an almost-unbelievable balance of color, light and dark.

This is a beautiful, well-composed picture, probably taken with a camera far out of my budget and in a location I will probably never see. My complaint is that your panel of judges seems elitist to me, thus discouraging submissions by the bulk of your readers to this contest. Nevertheless, I do admire the picture.

What an inspirational photo of honor, respect along with beautiful color and texture. There are so many associations meeting in this photo that it provokes imigination of history, mystery of religion and respect for nature and the position in life that we can strive to have by only using the word respect. Thank you for the moment that expresses so much thought.
Posted by Barbara Moulton on April 28,2008 | 04:17PM
As a pure work of art, this is unmatched. The contrast of the nun against the bright flowers and the even brighter patterns on the wall...wow!

Many people don't know how Ortodox Monastaries are like, the faith in God, the discipline and seriousity inside those gates. Not to mention the walls covered with beautiful paintings, inside and outside, that lasts for hundreds of years, never seen before in other religion. Congratz Cosmin!

The use of color is incredible and the way the person (the nun) is black and devoid of color just makes her that much more significant in the scene. It shows her dedication and strict discipline in a world of colorful temptation.
NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!! MA MAN!
