Maybe not the most perfect picture, but the most meaningful. Focuses not only on the stoic woman and the sad child, but also shows the devastation all all around them.

The human drama is quite evident - a mother and child in the midst of such devastation. The eyes of the child tugs at your heart.

This photo gives witness to devastation, abandonment and poverty that is caused or intensified by civil war.Yet there are hints of gold within this image that could believably be rays of hope- the glowing backlight, the golden cloth draped around the mother and child at there heads creating an abstract halo upon each and the gold diamonds that form a line the eye follows down the mother's dress to the child- perhaps the child brings hope to the mother as her hand supports his head and her thin frame sends forth a proud, although faint, smile.Perhaps her child is the only hope that sustains her at this moment.Yes, this photo is not just hinted with gold- it is pure gold.
