As a sentinel overlooking Death Valley, as if waiting for the mules to be hitched, stands the 20 mule team borax wagon. It is located at the old Harmony Borax Works just a few short miles from Furnace Creek. The heyday of the operation was from 1883-1888. The 20 mule team operation was replaced in 1890 with the arrival of a short gage railroad.
