As I attempted to dodge the soft pellets of an early morning rain shower, something caught my eye as I approached an alley. At first glance I noticed one witches' hat as it dangled from a wire. The moment of recognizing what it was made me chuckle, and then I saw two more black conical shaped hats with wide brims dangling as they gently swayed from a small gust of wind. This was an early morning walk to work in early October, so I wondered if three witches had been flying too low, or had to suddenly depart from this alley, but forgot to duck as they flew away from a momentary gathering spot.
