16th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest The American Experience
75 years ago
On July 10, 1943 the Allied forces began the invasion of Sicily. In Staten Island, NY, a small gravestone marks the resting place of Vincent, a 24 year old soldier perished during the amphibious landing of that day, 75 years ago.
