20th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
A bald Eagle feeding on a whitetail deer.
I came upon this deer carcass in a field. The eagles had already found it, as there were as many as ten on the carcass and more waiting their turn. Over the nest few hours, I watched as the eagles battled for position on the carcass.
