22nd Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
A bald eagle flys low in front of the golden morning light in southeast Alaska.

The world's largest gathering of bald eagles happens each fall along the Chilkat River near Haines, Alaska. This eagle took off above the river against the golden light of the morning sun.
