14th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
A beautiful fungus, much like a flower.
After gaining access to a Nikkor 80-200 f/2.8 lens, I took every opportunity to try it out. I loved the way the background blurred into a gorgeous, silky bokeh, and the zoom capabilities were exhilarating. This fungus appeared on a stump near my parent's cabin; I spent a lot of time photographing it from every angle, studying how the light passed through the thin walls of the fungus and brought out the intricate details.
