A Cambodian fisherman in Kratie

I shot this picture in Kratie, Cambodia. I stopped there on my way from Phnom Penh (where I used to live) to Vientiane, Laos, where I had to go to shoot a short documentary for the NGO I was working for. I remember the fisherman was very surprised (and a bit embarrassed), because I kept taking pictures of him instead of paying attention to the river dolphins that kept swimming around us. I believe a sustainable travel is a travel that means something not only to the traveller, but also to the people of the places we're visiting. Going all the way from Phnom Penh to Luang Prabang by bus I have seen so many people, so many places, and they always felt 'real', not just a good subject for a picture. This man is not just a face in my picture, he has a name, a family, a house, a story. I think when we understand this, that everyone everywhere has a story, we are really traveling.
