20th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
A Colorado Jay surveying the pines and trees in Rocky Mountain National Park.
While driving through the park in early spring, we stopped to hike a short way around a frozen lake up toward a creek. There were three or four jays that kept flitting around, and, since they are so different from what I'm used to, I kept trying to capture them on my camera. This was the best shot I took.
