15th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
A crater, a tree, a lake, and fog.
As we pedaled up the 6000-foot ancient volcano, we entered into the donut of clouds that encircled the jagged peeks formed 30000 years ago in an eruption. The sunny, autumn day transformed into a chilled mist that hung low upon the lake.
