15th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest The American Experience

To get to the lake this man is walking his dog about you have to go down a wooded hill into (at night) some pretty deep darkness. Yet you still see casual walkers down there in that dark. For me it says something about American's sense of ease and safety.
