A flag above the letterbox of the Kaweah Post Office

Kaweah Post Office is the oldest functioning post office in the United States, first established in 1890 by a commune living in the area. The pine wood structure is completely original from when it was first built. When we went to visit, it was closed, but the volunteer caretaker heard us outside and opened up the post office for us. He shared many stories with us from the earliest days, when mail was kept in a bag outside, to the present-day.
