A Fury of Flames

The Pioneer Fire burning in the Boise National Forest started July 18, 2016. Eight miles North of Idaho City it spread North, Northeast and Northwest creating a horseshoe of fire surrounding Lowman, Idaho burning and charring the beautiful forested mountains. Ground and air fire fighting teams from Idaho and many from across the country coordinated their efforts to contain out of control fires. High temperatures and winds promoted the fires despite their battle. We were evacuated from our home, August 5th as the fire was within a mile from us. We returned August 10th. Homes and structures in the region have been saved to date. By September 3, the fire will have burned 180,000 acres (281 square miles).
