16th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Altered Images
A gator basking along a Lowcountry saltmarsh near the Savannah River.
While viewing various feral birds and large alligators at a federally-owned wildlife refuge in the Lowcountry of South Carolina, I discovered a dominant alligator basking in the morning sun.
