12th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest The American Experience
A genuine Teddy Roosevelt bear circa 1903

Hand made by Morris and Rose Michtom of Brooklyn, New York. Created to honor President Theodore Roosevelt. Made of the finest materials of the time. The Michtom's made so few of these original Teddy's that they were lost in time. The Michtom's created this first style teddy bear to stand upright and to have a full open mouth that smiled. This old bear of mine is in all original condition. Golden mohair, fully jointed, very stiff body parts, flat feet. He is the most rarest teddy bear in the world. He belongs in the Smithsonian Institute.
