A Hawaiian yellow-faced bee, Hylaeus sp.

Like a wasp but unlike the common honeybee, the Hawaiian yellow-faced bee, Hylaeus sp., lacks pollen baskets (corbiculae) on her legs. This is a macro shot taken with a 105-mm Nikon Micro-Nikkor lens. Notice that the bee is just taking off.
