Jan, my partner above and below the surface, and I were swimming through a narrow canyon in the maze of spires, towers and massifs comprising Columbia Deep Reef off the south end of the island of Cozumel. In a particularly confined grotto, we were joined by this Hawksbill turtle, an endangered species. The large reptile chose to patiently swim with us in this small space, then went between us and finally right over me.
