23rd Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Wildlife
November Snow
During a fresh Sierra Nevada snowfall near Mono Lake, a wild mustang emerged from the forest and stood silently in the snow. He was so close that I had to step back to frame him. After the photograph was made, he turned and slipped just as quietly back into the trees.
