18th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest The American Experience
A night's rest for the American farmer.

This photo was taken of a fourth generation vegetable farm's tilling and planting equipment that had been parked after a long day's work to get the green beans planted before the spring rains returned. While the family began its story using horse drawn machinery to work their ground and get the seeds sown, today they have modern equipment to continue their legacy producing for the American consumer. Assuredly, as their family before them, the current farm operators had the machinery moved into the next fields early the next morning so that the crew could continue the planting process.
