19th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest People
A Padaung Lady

On a trip to Kayah State back in 2019, reached a village called "Pan Pet" where you can meet long-neck women. Women of the Kayan(Padaung) tribe are well known for wearing neck rings, brass coils that are placed around the neck. It is said that the rings protected women from becoming slaves, making them less attractive to other tribes. Also said, the coils give the women resemblance to a dragon, an important figure in Kayan folklore.
