A pair of Eurasian collared dove pecking and preening each other as part of their courtship ritual before mating.

A pair of Eurasian collared dove (Streptopelia decaocto) romancing on the branch of a Pink Cassia tree at a public park in Sharjah, UAE. Doves exhibit an appeasement behavior called allopreening that involves gentle caressing, pecking, and preening during courtship. Here the female is seen pecking the male on the cheek. She seems to be removing a tick near the bill and her partner (with the puffed out chest) is clearly enjoying the process with his eyelids almost drooping. This affectionate pecking and preening strengthen the bond between the pair during the breeding season.
