A Reflect in Monteagudo

The Christ of Monteagudo, Murcia — seen through the shop window of a nearby fashion store. The face in the frame is a mannequin’s reflection; the statue and the castle sit in the background, with visitors visible on the ramparts. The site has a long, contested history: the Christ was first installed in 1926 on top of a medieval Islamic fortress, torn down during the Spanish Civil War, and rebuilt in 1951 under Franco. Today, it is both a landmark and a lookout over the Segura Valley. This photograph plays with those layers—tourism, commerce, and memory—folded into a single view. Monteagudo, April 2024.
