A scavenging red fox sparks a beachwide steller sea lion dispersal into Northern Bristol Bay, AK

In early May on the East Cap of remote Round Island, located in the Walrus Islands State Game Sanctuary, an adult red fox (Vulpes vulpes) scavenges the beach for food, leading to a large steller sea lion (Eumetopias jubatus) disturbance. Although the Eastern Alaskan stock of these steller sea lions are listed as endangered, it is highly unlikely that red fox are a threat to their population.
