The spring and summer of 2014 were an unusually rainy season in Bulgaria. During a small break in the constant rain one day, I had gone out with my grandmother to the hills above my home city of Aytos. We came across this lone tree, illuminated by the rays of the sun, briefly protruding from the cloud cover and I knew the scene would make a photograph to remember.
