14th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
A snake climbing through the trees.

I was hiking with my father at Standing Stone State Park in Tennessee,and as we stopped to look at the lake, he turned around and saw two snakes gliding through the foliage behind us.They were so well camouflaged they were almost impossible to see if they had not been moving. One was actively chasing the other, and the pursued snake eventually escaped to the grass below.
