A store keeper sits by her shop in downtown Dakar
Roadside stores line many of Senegal’s streets. They sell daily commodities ranging from bottled water and rice to kerosene tanks. They provide a cheaper, and more readily available service than most supermarkets. Food is often sold in recycled bottles, making these roadside stores much ‘greener’ than supermarkets in the United States and Europe. Customers grow strong bonds with their local store clerks, who become an ‘extended family’
