16th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest The American Experience
A Storm Cellar, A Well, and a Cornfield

The cornfield and storm cellar is owned by an 80 year old Kansas farmer and his wife. What you see is surrounded by his 3000 acres of Kansas Flint Hills. We live in the city and we come to this farm to appreciate Kansas in its full glory - the sky, the pastures, the history, the story of an American farmer. It is America and Kansas in its rawness.
