13th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Travel
A surfer travels over a shallow reef shelf in Tahiti.
The reef in Tahiti is alive and can cut you up like a razor blade. This is the reason for clear water and waves. This shot was taken on the first day I was in Tahiti. It was a great introduction to the country because the clarity was like no other and I ended up getting shots of a lifetime on that day.
