18th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Travel
A train through the mountains.

I was on a 3 day road trip with 2 friends in the Banff National Park and Rocky Mountains. This spot is called Morant's Curve and is a local hot spot for photographers and train enthusiasts. This spot was made famous by Nicholas Morant, a staff photographer for the Canadian Pacific Railway. He took photographs for the company in the mid 20th century that were used for CPR promotional materials. Once the front engine has gone by the challenge is to find creative ways to photograph the train. I like to do long exposures.
