23rd Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest The American Experience
A weathered American flag retains its glory

The photo shows a weathered American flag against a plain wooden fence. I placed this American flag in my backyard about 7 years ago and, over time, it has become torn and tattered from the sun, rain, wind, and other natural elements. However, it still proudly stands there, just a couple of hours' drive from the first settlement at Jamestown. Camera: Nikon D780
