I was walking around the Philadelphia zoo and just came upon this image. It was a hot day in the city and this orangutan was just hanging out not moving much. The composition and walls caught me by surprise how much they appeared stark and painterly with the streaks running down. The ‘windows’ of the space, from the opening cage to the sitting space made me aware of how this creature is staring at cement all day. I’m not against zoo’s at all. They are a great refuge for many, however his stare was worth a photo and a moment in time.
