18th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Ahead of the rest
One of our adventures in Iceland was horseback riding. It should be noted that while I LOVE horses and find them fascinating and beautiful, I am afraid of them. They're imposing and I must have had a bad experience as a child. But, it was a trip of pushing our own personal limits, so horseback riding it was. This beautiful farm in north Iceland was the picture perfect place. After we were done with our ride through the countryside, we asked if we could stay behind and photograph their amazing horses. The owners could not have been nicer and the horses could not have been more beautiful.
