Alaska Polar Bear Emerging from the Beaufort Sea
A polar bear emerges from a swim in the Beaufort Sea near the Iñupiat village of Kaktovik. While polar bears spend most of their life on the sea ice, many congregate during the ice-free period between August and October near Barter Island.
