16th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Altered Images
Alisterus scapularis

I have been photographing a couple of young king parrots at Gardiners Creek Wildlife Reserve for weeks but I had never managed to get this close to them. They can be quite difficult to capture as they prefer staying in the dense canopy of trees. “The Australian king parrot is endemic to eastern Australia. They live in humid and heavily forested upland regions of the continent and mainly feed on on fruits and seeds gathered from trees or on the ground. (wiki)
