13th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Altered Images
Along the spring trail

I was taking an advanced photography class at Paul's Photo in Torrance and the theme for the year was based on the photographs of Ansel Adams. We would discuss some of the iconic photos that Adams took and use some of reasoning and techniques to take our own pictures. One of his first pictures was of some lodge pole pines at a lakes edge. The shot was a soft focus shot very different from his later super sharp photos. I found this shot along a trail in the Palos Verdes Peninsula. The most difficult part was to get the focused but soft look to the picture.
