This photograph shows an Egyptian goose (Alopochen aegyptiaca) resting on a narrow strip of beach where the "Ciane's river" meets the Mediterranean Sea, in southeastern Sicily. Although not native to the region, this individual had settled calmly in the coastal part of the reserve, feeding and resting among the driftwood and wild vegetation. I first observed her during a routine excursion, and after studying her behavior over time, i returned days later to find her still there, likely taking a break from migration. Her relaxed posture and vivid plumage offered a striking contrast to the muted tones of the shoreline.
