Alpha Male
The California sea lions of La Reina, Mexico, is a colony of only male sea lions. They are particularly inquisitive, playful and would not hesitate to investigate when scuba divers enter their domain. In this picture, the alpha male of the colony slipped into the water as soon as I approached. The alpha male was massive and I estimated it to be above 300kg. Despite its sheer size, I did not at any time feel intimidated by it. It was curious, but kept at a comfortable distance.
