We had gone to see the Kinderdijk windmills in Holland. Next to the visitor's center I saw this coot with its amazing feet. I had photographed them for years, but never saw their feet because they were swimming or flying. Our local coots don't have these awesome white feet. They are covered with skin flaps that spread out to keep them from sinking into soggy ground but collapse when they lift their feet to stop suction from holding them down.
