17th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest The American Experience
American Flag

I was laying on a bench at the fountain plaza in front of city hall the evening of 9/10 just staring at the flag through the trees. The large flag is regularly hanging, and smaller flags surrounded the plaza now in preoaration for the morning 9/11 ceremony. The thought that people seem to be taking pics of the flag regularly but only from straight on through the fountain came to mind. I decided I wanted a different angle and took up my phone.
