On the back roads of Saint Lawrence County in Upstate NY, you can find many Amish Family farms utilizing the Saint Lawrence River Valley’s fertile lands left behind by the once thriving English farms. Without the Amish migrating into the valley, much of Saint Lawrence County land would be vacant and unused. Concentrated Animal Feeding Operation farms have pushed English family farms to near extinction in the area. But with the frugal lifestyle and religion the Amish practice, they have thrived as a self supported farming community. I felt it ironic to be using a technologically advanced iPhone to capture a water pump windmill casted in a sunrise on an Amish Farm.
