An aquilegia leaf in the Blue Geyser Lake of Altai

Aquilegia, or columbine, leaves show an unusual effect known as the lotus effect. Its leaves are highly hydrophobic and when put under water look as if they are covered with quick silver. When I traveled to the famous Blue Geyser Lake in Altai I managed to find columbine and check if it was going to turn silver or blue. Luckily, the leaf started glowing with blue silver and I was happy to contemplate this unique combination.
