I encountered this Arctic Fox after landing on an island in Svalbard. Our group just arrived, when the fox ran across a small frozen pond at full speed with footsteps that were close to acrobatic. It stopped on the other side and looked back at us, seeming to be assessing any threat we posed for a long moment, concluding it seemed that we couldn't duplicate its prowess, and moving on at leisure until out of sight. I had expected that any Arctic Foxes we might encounter would be pure ermine white, but this one's coat was transitioning for the Arctic Summer as was the environment it lived in.
