an Endemic Atayal Slug Snake in Taipei Taiwan
Most snakes go in to brumation, and are harder to find, during winter in Taiwan. The Atayal Slug Snake (Pareas atayal), a recently discovered endemic species, is quite cold tolerant. The yellow iris distinguishes this species from the other slug eating snake species of Taiwan. On this night we found four of these beautiful Atayal Slug Snakes, with the one pictured being no longer than the length of my hand.
