19th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest People
An Inch Apart
I was walking by Lake Michigan, which is two blocks from my apartment, and I saw these two people sitting closely together. I was struck by how close they were sitting, as we all have been told for COVID safety, to keep 6 feet apart. This photograph was taken after vaccinations had started and it kind of felt like a testament to the effect of the vaccines on our interactions. The blueness of the sky and Lake coupled with their togetherness evoked of feeling of blue skies or perhaps, better days ahead.
