An Oryx climbs a dune in Sossusvlei

Sossusvlei is the only area in Namibia that gives access to the great sand sea. Access is by the dry river bed that feeds into the red dunes. At times of good rains, water pools here and animals com from far and wide. In times of no rain Oryx are still found browsing in the dunes. The scavenge for plants that grow at the base of the huge dunes. Although it is normal very eager pickings the Oryx thrive in an area which appears to be a barren desert.
